【 Artist: Yao Jui-Chung 】

Invited to participate in international biennales and triennials worldwide, recipient of the Taipei Photography New Talent Award, Hong Kong “Art Cluster Award,” Singapore “Asia-Pacific Art Prize – Public Award,” and Taiwan’s “Taishin Arts Award.”

His works span across diverse fields, primarily exploring the absurdity of the human condition. He is known for using humor to subvert “orthodoxy.” As a pioneer of ruin photography in Taiwan, he delves into the vast ideological voids hidden behind Taiwanese history, continuing with the theme: “The destiny of human history is inevitably absurd!”

He organized the “Lost Society Document” to reflect on disused spaces through the Mirage project, and in recent years completed The Mosquito Monument project, which systematically photographed giant statues across Taiwan, as well as Hellscape, a project exploring representations of hell.

In 2020, he was invited to serve as curator of the Taiwan Biennial. He is currently an adjunct professor in the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University and the director of Phantom Hall.

【 Pet: Rabbit 】

The silkscreen series Pet: Rabbit is inspired by animals Yao Jui-Chung has kept in the past. Each work carries its own memory and story. Using silkscreen, the pieces express Yao’s unique artistic language and his deep affection for the animals that accompanied him through life.

The series also nods to the Year of the Rabbit, playfully references the Chinese myth of Chang’e flying to the moon, and even reflects recent imaginative concepts of migrating to other planets. The rabbit’s ears also form the globally recognized “V” sign, symbolizing success.
